My old boss said something about sanding blocks that I keep thinking about
Was grabbing lunch with my old boss Dave last Friday, the guy I did body work under for 6 years before I opened my own bay in Fresno. We got to talking about a quarter panel I just finished and he asked what block I used, and when I said a hard block he goes "you're just polishing your mistakes, not fixing them." Took me a minute to get what he meant, but he was saying I was block sanding way too late in the process instead of getting the metal right first. I went back to the shop, rechecked a door I thought was done, and sure enough there was a low spot I'd been hiding with filler for a week. So what's your go-to method for catching low spots before primer, do you use a guide coat or just feel it out?
