Windstorm in Fairbanks wrecked my whole riding week
Last Tuesday the gusts hit 60 mph up in the hills and I figured I'd wait it out, but by Thursday the trails were pure slush and downed spruce everywhere. My buddy and I tried to push through to the old cabin past Chena and got high-centered on a hidden root wad, took us 3 hours with a come-along to get free. Then Saturday the temp swung to 40 above and the snow turned to peanut butter, both machines overheated from the strain. We burned through two belts and a full tank of gas each just to cover 14 miles round trip. No one got hurt, but that was the worst stretch I've had in 6 years of riding this area. Anyone else got a horror story from a weird thaw that made you rethink your whole setup?
