Snowmobile studs on a dirt bike, why did I wait so long to try this

Last month I bolted a set of 96 studs from an old track onto my buddy's worn-out dirt bike tires for a frozen lake run near Grand Rapids. Figured it would be a joke, but the grip on glare ice was unreal, like the bike turned into a different machine entirely. The trick was keeping the studs short enough so they didn't chunk out on the few bare patches, and I lost two on the first mile, but the rest held fine. What I didn't expect was how much harder the steering got at lower speeds, almost like the front end wanted to plow instead of turn. My buddy laughed and said it felt more like an ATV with skis than a bike, which got me thinking about hybrid setups people run up north. Has anyone else swapped snowmobile hardware onto other machines just to see what sticks? My next test is a set on the rear tires of my quad, but I'm wondering if the extra weight changes the stud pattern I should use.
