I'm the only one who still tunes carbs by ear
Went to a group ride last Saturday and saw 4 guys all hooking up laptops to their sleds to adjust fuel mix. I pulled out a screwdriver and listened to the engine pitch like I've done for 15 years. Am I missing something huge or is this just fancy overkill?

Huh. I read somewhere that the newer fuel injection systems can adjust like a hundred times a second, way more than a human can hear. But old school still works, that's what my grandpa always said.

Brought my old sled to a shop last winter and the guy laughed at me for turning the air screw by feel. Told him to listen to that sweet spot at idle where the rpm barely wavers and then pulls clean on throttle chop. He shut up real quick when I dialed it in faster than his computer could even boot up. Not saying laptops are useless but my ears have never let me down on a trail.
