Guy at the gas station in West Yellowstone told me my carbides were shot and I blew him off, cost me a whole weekend
I was topping off the sled at a station off Highway 20 back in January when an older guy walking past my trailer just stopped and stared at my skis. He said my carbides were worn down to nothing and I would dart all over the trail. I nodded, said thanks, and figured he was just bored and wanted to talk about snowmobiles. Two hours later on a groomed trail near Two Top I hit a patch of ice and the front end shot sideways so fast I nearly went into the trees. The rest of the trip I was fighting the bars the whole time and my shoulders were wrecked by Sunday. Got home, flipped the sled on its side, and the carbide was worn clean through the host bar on both sides. I have been riding for a while and I still missed it, which bugs me more than the money. So now I am asking, how often do you all actually check your wear bars, and is there a mileage number you go by or do you just eyeball them?
