Shot the Orion Nebula from my driveway in Boise last week and got a weird blue halo, what is causing it?
I finally dragged my old DSLR and a cheap 50mm lens out to the driveway in Boise last Tuesday around 11pm to try shooting Orion. I stacked about 40 shots at 2 seconds each, and when I ran them through DeepSkyStacker I saw a faint blue ring around the brightest stars that was not there in my single frames. I checked my focus three times and even taped the lens down so it would not drift, but the ring stayed put. My neighbor's porch light is about 20 feet away, so I am guessing it is some kind of reflection, but I have never seen it look this even. Could this be a lens issue or is it just stray light bouncing inside the camera? Has anyone else fought a halo like this from a yard with streetlights nearby?
