I finally see why my uncle in Reno says phone shots of the Milky Way are ruining how we look at the sky
He showed me his 40 year old prints of the same patch of sky at his kitchen table last week and the dust lanes actually looked like dust instead of a glowing smudge, so now I want to know if anyone else has gone back to film for wide field shots or if it is just nostalgia.
Did your uncle shoot medium format or 35mm? My buddy got his old Nikon FM2 out last summer for star trails and the grain ended up looking like actual texture in the sky instead of that smooth digital wash. He swears the colors hold up better too, but he also spends a fortune on film now so who knows.
