Back in 2015, I had to pick between a cheap DSLR or saving for a proper cooled astro camera. I went with the DSLR and spent a whole year fighting noise in my shots.

What made you decide the DSLR was worth the extra work in the end? That's a serious time commitment, so you must have seen some benefit over just waiting.

Totally get the "serious time commitment" thing. I felt the same way when I started. For me, it was the control. Learning what each setting did meant I could finally get the exact shot I saw in my head, not just what my phone decided was okay. That made all the hours messing with manual mode worth it.
