Passed on the $95 brake job at Midas in Dayton, did it myself for $38 and now I'm second guessing everything

Two years back my pads were metal on metal and I had to pick between paying Midas $95 or doing it in my driveway with a $38 kit from AutoZone. The job worked fine but I stripped a caliper bolt and had to walk 2 miles to a parts store, so what would you have done?
