Just came back from Moab and the sand storm was no joke

I was out near Arches last Tuesday doing some hiking and the wind picked up real fast around 2pm. Within 20 minutes visibility dropped to maybe 30 feet and I couldn't see the trail markers at all. Had to hunker down behind a big rock for almost an hour until it passed. Has anyone else gotten caught in a sudden weather change out there and what did you do?

Oh man, was that last Tuesday? I was over at Canyonlands the same day and got absolutely wrecked by that wind. Had to wrap my shirt around my face and just wait it out behind a juniper tree for like 45 minutes, felt like the sand was sandblasting my skin off.
