Had to pick between a $200 dig in Peru and a local site in Ohio...
I was saving up all year for a volunteer dig in the Sacred Valley, but then my car threw a rod and ate up like $1,400 of my savings. So I had to choose between blowing my whole vacation fund on that Peru trip anyway or just digging a few weekends at a farm site near Dayton that nobody's really mapped. I went with the Ohio site, figured I'd see what I could find with limited tools and zero budget. Ended up uncovering a section of what looks like an old canal trench from the 1830s, plus a handful of broken clay pipe stems. It's not Machu Picchu, but I'm lowkey more invested now because it's right in my backyard. Has anyone else picked a cheaper local project over a bucket list dig and been surprised by what you found?

Makes you stop and think, doesn't it. Glad it worked out for you though.
