Found a piece of pottery in my backyard that looks really old
I was digging a hole for a new fence post behind my shed in Cincinnati last Tuesday when my shovel hit something hard. I pulled out a curved piece of brown pottery with a weird zigzag pattern pressed into it. It's about the size of my hand and feels rough. I know my house is on land that was part of an old farm, but this looks way older than that. I washed it off and showed my neighbor, who said it might be from the Fort Ancient people who lived around here. Now I'm not sure what to do with it. Should I call someone from the local history museum, or just put it back in the ground?

Seriously, I saw a documentary where they mapped a whole site just from one artifact's location.

Your neighbor might be right about Fort Ancient. I'd call the museum before you put it back, because its exact location could be important for them.
