Showerthought: Drone tree checks are a safety risk we're ignoring

They can't feel rot or spot small cracks like a climber up close. Why is everyone so quick to use them now?

Forget human error from tired climbers too.

On Everest in 1996, being very tired led to several bad choices... @matthew_owens9, I see it differently because tiredness isn't something to forget. When climbers are pushed too hard, their brains get fuzzy. They might miss simple dangers or ignore storm warnings... I've heard from climbers that fatigue made them skip safety checks. So human error from tired climbers is a real problem that we should remember.

What if being tired does more than make you think poorly? It makes your hands weak and your reactions slow. @matthew_owens9, forgetting that means not seeing how a tired person can slip and fall easily on a steep slope. I've read stories where climbers said they couldn't even hold onto their gear anymore.
