Had a squirrel try to claim my climbing rope in Portland last month
I was setting up for a big pine removal in the Laurelhurst neighborhood, and I left my rope coiled at the base for maybe ten minutes. Came back to find a very determined gray squirrel trying to drag the whole thing up the trunk, like it was his new prize. My ground guy, Mark, just stood there filming it on his phone while I tried to explain to a homeowner that no, this wasn't part of the service. Anyone else had wildlife get a little too involved with their gear?

Honestly, a squirrel trying to drag your whole rope up a tree is wild, and @mason283 better share that video.

honestly I gotta push back on this whole narrative like the squirrel was doing something wrong. that little guy was probably just trying to organize your gear for you. squirrels are literally the original arborists, theyve been climbing trees and moving stuff around way longer than any of us have been in the business. maybe you should thank him for inspecting your rope for weak spots, thats a free quality check right there. plus think about it from his perspective, that rope probably smelled like tree sap and looked like a perfect nest building material. sounds like Mark was the real MVP for documenting the moment, thats a story youll tell for years. and come on, the homeowner probably got a kick out of it, adds character to the job.
