Vent: my $18 pick set finally got that stupid dishwasher door spring back on after I fought it for 40 minutes
Had a Whirlpool dishwasher last Tuesday where the door spring popped off the hinge and I could not get it back on with needle nose pliers to save my life. The springs on these things sit way up behind the side panel and there is barely any room to get your hand in there, let alone grip a stretched spring and hook it. I tried hooking it from the top, from the bottom, tried bending the hook open a little, no luck. Then I remembered a trick a guy named Ray at a parts counter in Modesto showed me back when I was green, you take a small pick with a 90 degree bend and use it like a third finger to pull the spring loop over the post while your other hand holds the door. Took me about 30 seconds once I did it that way, and I did not skin a single knuckle. The pick set cost me $18 at Harbor Freight like 6 months ago and it has saved me on dryer door switches too. Curious if anybody here has a better way for the ones where the spring is totally buried behind the frame, because next time I might just pull the whole unit out instead.
