Pro tip: I blew $260 on a 'certified' online appliance repair course and learned less than a morning ride-along
I want to save somebody the money I torched. Back in March I paid $260 for this online course that promised to teach fridge and washer repair, complete with a fancy certificate and a module on "diagnostic flow." Turned out to be 14 hours of a guy reading slides off a laptop, and half the videos were filmed in 2015, so every board he pointed at was already two generations old. The only useful thing was a printable flowchart I could've found free on a forum like this one. Meanwhile I did one Saturday ride-along with a tech named Ray out of Albany and learned more about reading ohms on a compressor in four hours than that whole course gave me in two weeks. If you're new and thinking about paying for online training, my honest take is skip it and put that cash toward a decent meter and some gas money to shadow a local tech. Has anyone found a course that was actually worth the money, or is it all slide-reading fluff?
