That capacitor advice from a 1987 forum post actually worked

Back in March I was chasing a hum in an old Kenwood receiver, and some archived post from 1987 said to swap the 4700uF filter caps even if they looked fine. I was skeptical, cost me $18 in parts from a shop in Dayton, but the hum dropped to nothing after 20 minutes of soldering. Anyone else ever get lucky following ancient forum wisdom, or am I just the outlier?

So the hum is completely gone, but did you check if those old caps were leaking any DC voltage before you swapped them, or did you just trust the post blindly? Curious if the fix was the caps or something else that got jostled during the solder job.
