I finally stopped blowing out cart pins with compressed air, and a $6 brass brush in Dayton taught me why
I used to hit every dusty NES and Genesis cart connector with canned air because that's what my older cousin showed me back in 2009, and I figured it was fine. Last month I opened up a Zelda cart I'd cleaned that way a dozen times, and the pins still had a gray film that air never touched, which is when it clicked that I was just pushing dust around instead of taking it off. A guy at the flea market in Dayton sold me a brass brush for $6 and told me to follow it with 91 percent isopropyl, and three carts that wouldn't boot now fire up on the first try. So what's the deal, is a brass brush too harsh for anyone else's pins, or am I late to something everybody already knew?
