Hot take: the computer museum in San Jose should not be running that Xerox Alto with a LCD swap
Was out in San Jose last weekend and hit the computer history place with my kid. Cool stuff, but they have a Xerox Alto on the floor with what looks like a modern LCD jammed into the case. I get it, the old CRT died, parts are gone. But man, why not just leave it dark and put a photo on the placard? Half the draw of these machines is the glow and flicker. My kid asked why the screen looked like a laptop and I had no good answer. Does anybody know if that is a temp fix or did it get signed off permanent?
