I used to dismiss those first episode reaction threads as pure hype bait, but after seeing a show I almost skipped get a 1,000 word breakdown about a tiny detail in episode 3, I get it now. That specific thread pointed out a background painting that tied the whole plot together, and it sold me on reading before judging. Does anyone else skip those early threads or do you always dig in?

My buddy Dan swore off those threads after getting burned by a hyped pilot once, but last month he texted me at 2am about a throwaway line in episode 5 of some anime we both hate. He was furious it was actually good and went back to read every thread from that show. Your mileage may vary, but that guy is the pickiest person I know.
