My anime night turned into a subtitle speedrun disaster

Last week I hosted a watch party for 6 people at my apartment in Austin, and we put on a subbed show with fast dialogue. I paused to grab snacks, but my remote fell under the couch and the episode kept playing. By the time I found it, we were 3 episodes ahead and nobody had any idea what was happening. Everyone started making up their own plots, and honestly the fake storylines were way funnier than the real show. Has anyone else had a watch party derail like that where you just gave up and let chaos win?

That "subtitle speedrun disaster" bit got me good, I read that and laughed out loud. I actually saw a similar thing happen at a friend's place where the Blu-ray skipped a chapter and everyone just rolled with it, inventing this whole backstory about a time traveling side character. Sometimes the group's made up nonsense is way more memorable than whatever the original plot was, so honestly you might have stumbled onto a better tradition.
