Got into a 40 comment fight on r/anime because I said the beach episode of Dennou Boukenki isn't filler
Last Tuesday I was on the couch at like 1am scrolling the discussion thread for Dennou Boukenki episode 9, the beach one, and someone posted a hot take that every beach episode is filler by default and should be skipped. I jumped in and said nah, that episode is where the whole crew actually bonds before the rescue arc, and skipping it makes episode 14 hit way less hard. Within an hour I had like 40 replies calling me a fake fan and one guy said I probably watch everything at 1.5x speed, which honestly stung. I ended up pulling up the manga chapter list to show the beach arc had its own 3 chapters and the anime just moved them around, and people still argued it was padding. What bugs me is everyone treats pacing complaints like proof the scene doesn't matter, when really a slow episode can be doing the most work for the story. So am I wrong for thinking the beach episode is required viewing for this show, or does the community just hate fun episodes now?
