Why does nobody warn you about those cheap USB floppy drives on eBay
Dropped $22 on one of those no-name USB floppy drives for my old Packard Bell so I could pull some old files, and it died after copying 4 disks. Windows kept saying the disk was unformatted while the drive clicked like crazy, so I grabbed a real Teac out of a junk shop in Reno for $5 and it read every single one on the first try. Anyone else get burned by the new stuff, or is there a brand of these things that actually holds up?
I once bought two of those cheap drives thinking I was being smart, and both died before I finished one box of old AOL disks. A $5 junk shop Teac is worth more than a whole case of the new ones.
