Found out my 2005 laptop has a 2TB drive limit and it hit me weird

I was reading the service manual for my old ThinkPad T43 last weekend, just for fun, and there it was on page 112. The SATA controller tops out at 2TB, which I never thought about since the machine originally came with a 40GB drive. It got me thinking how 2TB used to sound like a server farm and now it's just a backup drive sitting in a drawer. Anyone else run into a hard limit on a vintage machine that made you stop and stare at the specs sheet?
