TIL I reached 1,001 rolls developed at home and it snuck up on me
I was cleaning up my darkroom shelf in the basement last week and actually counted my old developer bottles and film canisters, and the number came out to 1,001 rolls since I started developing my own film back in 2011. That number really caught me off guard. When I did my first roll in a plastic tank in my kitchen in Columbus, I truly thought I would quit after a few months since I kept getting streaks and uneven development. Back then I would drive 40 minutes to a lab in Dayton just to get a single roll done, and now I mix my own D-76 in a bucket and hang negatives on a clothesline in the laundry room. Somewhere along the way the whole process stopped feeling like a chore and just became part of my week. The weird part is I still scratch about one roll out of every twenty, mostly from rushing when I load the reel. Has anyone else kept a rough count of how many rolls they have put through their own tank, or am I the only one who tracks this stuff?
