I thought home developing was going to ruin my film, but 12 rolls later I'm a believer
I put off developing my own black and white for almost a year because I was sure I'd just scratch everything or mess up the timing. Last month I finally caved and bought a Patterson tank and some D-76, and I've run 12 rolls through it since. My first batch came out thin because I poured the developer in too slow, but by roll 4 I had it down and the grain looks better than what my local lab in Sacramento was giving me for $18 a roll. The thing that sold me was seeing how much control I get over contrast just by tweaking my agitation. Anyone else here start out scared of the darkroom stuff and end up never going back to a lab?
