Rant: spent 5 weeks chasing a light leak in my Pentax K1000 and it was the felt seal the entire time
Kept getting this orange streak on the right side of every frame and I tore apart my dark bag routine, my reels, even blamed my local lab in Boise twice. Finally taped over the hinge with black tape and the streak vanished, so I replaced the $6 foam seal kit last Saturday and shot a test roll of Portra 400. Anyone else ignore the obvious door seal because you were sure it was your own fault?
So you spent five weeks blaming your lab in Boise and tearing apart your dark bag routine over a six dollar piece of foam. I have to ask, is that really worth the stress you put yourself through? Light leaks on a K1000 are about the most common thing in the world, the seals dry out and crumble on every one of those cameras eventually. Taping the hinge is a five second test and you could have done it the first day instead of the fifth week. Not saying you should feel dumb, but like, half the hobby is just checking the cheap stuff before you go deep on the hard stuff.
