Color film vs b&w for street scenes... any real debate left?

I spent last Saturday shooting downtown Portland with a roll of Portra 400 and then a roll of HP5 pushed to 1600. The color shots caught the neon and the rain-soaked pavement so well, but the b&w ones had this raw texture that felt more truthful for the crowds and grit. Am I crazy for thinking b&w handles motion and shadow better for street work, or is color just the lazy default now? Curious what you all lean on when you're out with a fixed 35mm or a rangefinder setup.
