That old timer's advice about panel batteries finally made sense

Back in 2017, a guy named Lou from a shop in Omaha told me to swap every panel battery out at the 3 year mark, no exceptions. I thought he was just trying to sell more parts, so I stretched some to 4 or 5 years when clients balked. Twice last winter I got called back to systems that were throwing low battery faults at 2 AM, and both times the date stamps showed I'd skipped the swap. Now I follow his rule to the letter, even if it means eating the cost on a service visit. Anyone else have a mentor's rule they ignored until it bit them?

My uncle swore by changing tractor batteries every two years no matter what, and I called him paranoid until I spent a frozen January morning pushing a dead combine back to the shed. That was the day I learned paranoia is just another word for experience.
