Rant: Old timer installer made me feel like a rookie

Talked to a guy who's been doing alarms since the 80s last week at a supply house. He said my wire runs are too clean and look like I'm more worried about looks than catching a signal in a fire. It hit different cause he showed me a photo of a panel he did in 1995 with wires going every direction and still passing inspection. Made me wonder if I'm overthinking the neatness thing when it comes to real life installs. Anyone else get called out by someone with decades of experience and had to rethink your whole approach?
