Unpopular opinion: I stopped using safety wire pliers on everything and my knuckles thank me
For years I twisted every single safety wire by hand with pliers like I was taught at my first shop in Wichita, and I figured that was just how it was. Then last month a guy on my crew handed me a set of reversible twisters and I knocked out a whole engine baffle job in about 40 minutes instead of the usual hour and a half. Now I only break out the hand pliers for tight spots where the twisters won't fit. Anybody else switch over, or am I late to this party?

Switched over about two years ago and never looked back. A buddy of mine in the hangar let me try his twisters on a flap track job and I was hooked after the first twist. The pigtail comes out so much cleaner and even, plus my hands don't cramp up half as bad by the end of a long shift. I still keep the old hand pliers in the box for those tight spots behind accessories where nothing else fits, same as you. Once you get the hang of setting the tension right, you can run a whole panel in way less time. Anybody who's still twisting every single one by hand is just making extra work for themselves.
