That 20-year veteran's comment about my borescope habit stuck with me
Last week at the hangar in Tulsa, an old A&P named Ray watched me do a routine borescope check on an RB211 fan blade. He said, "You're looking for cracks, but you should be looking for the story behind them." Then he showed me a blade with a tiny indication that traced back to a bad compressor wash two cycles prior. I always treated borescope checks like a checklist, but now I look at the whole history. Has anyone else had a senior guy reframe how you approach inspections? What's the best trick you picked up from an old timer?

... but see, that's exactly the thing. All that history stuff is great in a perfect world, but you don't always have it. Sometimes the logbook's a mess or the part's been swapped around so many times nobody remembers. A checklist keeps you honest when the story's missing.
