Showerthought: I used to torque by feel on wheel nuts, now I use a calibrated wrench and a log sheet
Back when I worked the line at a small shop near Bakersfield, we just hit the nuts with an impact until they felt snug and called it good. Now I check the spec, set the click wrench, and write the value on a log sheet every single time. Half the old crew says I am wasting 4 minutes per wheel, but the other half says they have seen a wheel walk off a hub at 60 mph. Which side are you on and why?
You really want to bet your life on a wrench that just "feels right" (and the arm of a guy who has been doing it for 30 years)? Those 4 minutes per wheel are way cheaper than explaining to a cop why your tire passed you on the highway. I will take the log sheet and the click every single time.
