Old timer's torque tip finally clicked for me today
A retired Delta guy told me to stop chasing the click and go slow past the detent on the main gear bolts, tried it on a 737 wheel hub this morning and the reading was way more consistent, has anyone else gone back to that method instead of just trusting the wrench?
The part about chasing the click really hit home. I used to be one of those guys who trusted the click and figured that was the end of it, but the readings could be all over the place. I tried the slow method on a few different jobs after reading your post, and it's a night and day difference. That extra bit past the detent gives you a real feel for where the bolt actually seats, not just when the spring inside decides to pop. I've been doing it the old way for a month now and I'm not going back. It takes a little more time but the consistent results are worth every second.
