Our town's stoplights are getting smarter with AI

I was driving through downtown and noticed the traffic lights seem smarter now. They change based on how many cars are waiting, which I heard is because of AI. For instance, at Main Street, the light stays green longer if there's a big line. This has cut down my commute time by a few minutes each day. It seems like a small change that helps a lot. Other spots like bus stops could see similar tech soon. It's neat to watch AI improve daily routines.

Main Street's light still feels like it takes forever to me. I sat there yesterday with two cars ahead of me and it cycled to yellow right as I got to the line. They say it cut your commute by a few minutes, but I'm not sure how they even measure that. My drive home feels exactly the same as it did last year. It just seems like a fancy way to describe a timer that already existed.

Sounds like every "smart" upgrade these days.

Yeah, and it's not just about wait times... I wonder if the AI is really learning or just following old patterns. It might even mess up during weird traffic, like when there's a game letting out or something. Without seeing the data, it's hard to trust that it's doing anything special... could just be a timer with a fancy name. Feels like another thing that sounds smart but doesn't change much in real life.
