My brother dared me to enter a local gallery show with an AI piece under my own name and the judge picked it over my oil painting
Back in March I entered two pieces in the spring show at the community center here in Akron, one was an oil painting I spent about 40 hours on and the other was an AI generated landscape I tweaked for maybe 20 minutes in the prompt box. I put my real name on both because I figured it was a fun test of whether people judge the work or the process. The AI one got an honorable mention and my painting got nothing, and nobody on the panel even asked how either was made. Everyone here says AI stuff isn't real art, but a room full of actual art judges clearly couldn't tell or didn't care. So what does that say about the whole argument, is it about the art or just about who gets credit for making it?
