The thought put into the prompts is key. What were some of the prompts they used?

Exactly, the prompts are where the real work happens. It's not just typing a wish into a box. The kids had to figure out what grandpa actually likes, then find the words to make the AI show it. That takes a bunch of tries and real thought. The old man probably saw his grandkids problem solving and being creative, which is way cooler than any flashy picture.
