Hot take: My AI art failed hard at a local print show last weekend

I entered this piece I made in Midjourney into a small gallery show in Portland. The colors looked perfect on screen but printed totally muddy with weird artifacts in the shadows. A guy running the print booth pointed out the AI upscaled it weird and I never checked the actual pixel level. Now I gotta figure out if I can fix it or if the file is just garbage. Anyone else had prints come out looking nothing like the digital version?

Oh man, prints are such a gamble sometimes. I had a similar thing happen with a digital painting I spent ages on, looked great on my iPad but when I got it printed at Costco the blacks turned into a weird purple blob. Midjourney upscalers are sneaky like that, I've had to learn the hard way to check every single pixel before sending to print.

Dude I gotta hard disagree on this one @felix_thomas73. Prints have been way more forgiving for me than screen stuff ever is. Ive sent some real sketchy low res images to Walgreens and they came out looking totally fine. Maybe Costco just has bad printers or something. My rule is if it looks okay blown up on a cheap monitor its probably fine on paper. Screens lie way more than paper does in my experience.
