That guy at the old asylum who told me I was missing the point

I was at the abandoned Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Kentucky last fall, photographing the peeling paint in the tuberculosis ward, when this older guy walks up and says I should be looking at the floor tiles instead of the walls. He pointed out a patch of terrazzo flooring that had a faint curved line where decades of gurney wheels had worn a groove into the stone. Do you ever feel like the best details are the ones nobody posts about?

...or maybe the guy was just trying to sound deep to mess with you. I've been to Waverly too and I spent half my time stepping over broken glass and trying not to breathe in mold. The floor groove thing is neat, but honestly how much story can a worn line really tell you? It's just where the wheels went. Feels like people read one too many blog posts about "hidden details" and start seeing meaning in every scratch.

Talked to my buddy Dave about that same spot last week. He spent three hours just staring at the floor in the old kitchen area and found these handprints pressed into the concrete where the dishwashers must have stood for years. Said the wear patterns told him more about daily life there than any of the spooky ghost stories people share online. Made me realize most folks are so busy looking for the obvious creepy stuff they miss the quiet stories right under their feet. Your mileage may vary but I bet those floor tiles have more to say than any crumbling wall ever could.
