Finally got a clear shot of the old textile mill's turbine room after three trips

I wasted about $80 on a cheap tripod that collapsed in the damp air there last month, ruining a whole set of long exposure shots. The legs just gave out and the camera hit the concrete floor, scuffing the lens hood. I had to drive back home empty handed that day, which was a total bummer. Has anyone found a sturdy, compact tripod that holds up in humid abandoned spots?

Ugh, that's the worst feeling. I learned the hard way that cheap tripods are a total false economy for this hobby. My Manfrotto Befree Advanced has been a tank in some seriously damp basements. It's not the smallest thing ever, but the leg locks are solid and it hasn't failed me. The aluminum version handles moisture way better than plastic parts that can warp. It's worth the extra cash to not have that heart drop moment again.

Oh man, @elliotc10, you're totally right about that heart drop feeling. I had a cheap tripod completely give out on a shoot near a creek, camera went straight into the mud. Switched to a carbon fiber model after that, and the peace of mind is real. It's been through light rain and sandy beaches without a single wobble. Never going back to flimsy gear.
