Abandoned grain elevator in Kansas taught me more than any map ever did

I used to plan every urbex trip with satellite images and forums, like 2 hours of research just to find a hole in a fence. Then last month I pulled over for a broken alternator near Salina, KS and saw this massive concrete grain elevator off Highway 81. Walked in without any prep, just a flashlight and my dog, and honestly it beat every researched spot I've hit. The silos had this crazy echo that made my heart pound, and there was an old office with 1970s paperwork still in the drawers, payroll stubs and everything. Now I spend way less time online and more time just driving backroads looking for dead industry. Does anyone else find better spots by accident than by planning them out? What's the best random find you've had?
