My grandfather's 1953 Buick ad collection got water damaged and I think the 'mint' ones people chase are overrated anyway
So last Tuesday I was pulling a box of my grandpa's stuff out of my mom's garage in Sacramento and a pipe had been dripping right onto it for who knows how long, and about 30 of his old car ads from 1953 to 1956 came out warped and stained. Here's where I disagree with everybody on this forum: I don't think a perfectly preserved ad is worth 10 times more than a beat up one with a story behind it. Two of the ruined ones were a Buick Roadmaster and an Oldsmobile 88, and honestly I sat there looking at the water rings and liked them more because my grandpa clearly flipped through these things a hundred times. Everyone here chases the crisp ones in plastic sleeves, but the stained ones were the ones he actually held. Am I the only one who thinks a little damage makes these old ads more real, or do you all still want them pristine?
