I've been transcribing 18th-century ship logs as a hobby. I found a log entry that mentions an uncharted island, but I can't find any maps that show it. Has anyone else come across something like this, and how do you verify these kinds of claims?

Actually, those logs weren't just stories. Sailors wrote down what they saw for real. To check it, you need to cross reference that ship's log with others from the same time and area. Look at their weather notes and coordinates to see if any patterns match up.
