Back when I started, I had to pick between a cheap glory hole kit or saving for a real one.
I went with the cheap one, and the burner plate warped after maybe 30 hours of use. Anyone else have an old piece of gear they wish they'd just saved up for instead?

Hold on, you got thirty hours out of a warped burner plate? That seems optimistic. I would have shut it down the second I saw that bend. Cheap gear is one thing, but a warped heat source is just asking for trouble.

Guess I got lucky then, hernandez.ben. My old gear is held together by hope and a prayer.

Exactly, that's the whole thing with cheap gear. You're not just saving money, you're gambling that nothing critical fails. A warped burner plate isn't a "maybe it's fine" situation, it's a "when does this catch fire" timer. Thirty hours is actually pretty good for a cheap one, I've seen people post pics where they warped on the first use.
That's the part that gets me. People see a low price and think they're being smart, but they're really just buying a problem that shows up later. I learned that lesson with a cheap grinder that shed metal shavings into my coffee. Not worth the headache for saving forty bucks.
