TIL that comparing phone chargers by wattage alone is a trap

I tried two Anker chargers on my Samsung phone last week, a 20W and a 45W, and the 45W actually charged slower because it had a different voltage profile. Turns out the phone's chip decides the speed, not just the number on the box. Has anyone else found a charger that claims high watts but doesn't deliver for your specific device?

My 45W Anker brick does the same thing on my Pixel. I was so hyped to get faster charging and it barely beat the old 18W one. The phone's power management IC is the real boss here, it negotiates what it can handle. Some chargers have funky PPS profiles that the phone just doesn't like. I've had better luck with a cheap Aukey 30W, go figure. It's all about that compatibility dance between the chip and the charger's handshake.

Is this really something worth getting worked up over? It charges your phone, who cares if it takes 45 minutes or 50?
