That $45 drafting pencil set I bought on impulse at the supply store

I grabbed this fancy 5-pack of drafting pencils last month thinking they'd be smoother than my old Staedtler. Turns out two of them had tips that wobbled right out of the box. I tried swapping leads and tightening the collets but no luck. The store wouldn't take them back since I opened the package. Has anyone else run into bad quality control on those multi-packs?

Wait, did you check if the little brass clutch inside the tip was actually seated right? My buddy Tom bought the same 5-pack last spring and had the same wobble on two of them, but he figured out the collet was just cross-threaded from the factory and he fixed it by hand tightening it in a certain way. He ended up giving one to his kid for school though so I guess the quality's just spotty on those multi-packs.

Tried that actually, ended up stripping the brass piece because I was too aggressive with the pliers and had to order a replacement from a guy on Etsy who makes them out of stainless steel instead. You ever notice how these multipacks always have one or two duds but the singles are usually fine?
