My email list split test went completely wrong last Thursday
I was trying to test two different subject lines for a client's newsletter, set it up in Mailchimp, and somehow the system sent both versions to the entire list of 8,500 people. It happened around 3 PM, right after I clicked 'send'. I spent the next hour sending apology emails and explaining the double send. The open rate was a mess because people got confused. Has anyone else had Mailchimp glitch out on a split test like that? What did you do to fix it with the client?

Just blame the Mailchimp gremlins.

Ugh, that exact thing happened to me once. Did you check the send log in Mailchimp to see what it says happened? I took a screenshot of the error for my client to show it was a system glitch, not my mistake. Then I suggested we do a special follow-up email with an exclusive discount code to make up for the inbox spam. It turned a bad thing into a chance to boost sales, and they calmed down pretty fast.
