I picked a niche blog over broad SEO and my traffic tanked for 4 months

Everyone in this group swears going niche is the only way. Back in March I narrowed my landscaping blog from general lawn care to just drip irrigation systems. My organic visits went from about 8,000 a month down to 1,200 and stayed there through June. I did get higher rankings for the few keywords I targeted, but there just aren't enough people searching that topic in my area of Phoenix. I'm leaning toward going back to broad lawn care guides next month. Has anyone else survived a niche switch without losing your whole audience?

Read somewhere that Phoenix specifically has weak search volume for drip irrigation year round, so your drop makes sense. Maybe blend the two instead of fully picking one side, like keeping broad guides but adding a drip section that gets updated monthly.

Man that really sucks when you put in the work on something and the numbers just arent there. Solid point about blending though, keeps things alive without tossing all that effort away. Monthly updates on just the drip part sounds way more doable than a full overhaul every time.
