Why does nobody talk about password managers resetting 2FA codes?

Last Tuesday I swapped my phone and went through the whole re-setup dance. Turns out my password manager had silently dropped all my 2FA seeds from the old device, so I lost access to my bank and two work accounts. I had to call support for each one, took about 4 hours total. I've seen tons of posts about using password managers, but nobody mentions backing up your TOTP seeds separately. Anyone else get burned by this, or do you keep a printed copy of your recovery codes somewhere?
