Lost $180 on a 'lifetime' VPN deal from a site I found in a random ad

I saw an ad for a VPN that promised lifetime access for $180, which sounded like a steal compared to the monthly plans I was paying for. Turns out the company was a total shell and the app stopped connecting after a month, and their support email just bounced back. I tried to get a refund through PayPal but the seller had already vanished. Now I stick to the well known ones and pay monthly so I can leave whenever I want. Has anyone else gotten burned by one of these cheap lifetime security deals, and did you get your money back?

PayPal won't refund after 180 days, that's the real trap.
